My husband just got a new hearing aid that has changed his world. It's RESOUND...AZURE and it works so much better than what he previously owned. Their expensive but definitely worth it. Things have been very depressing for him lately since he was unable to barely hear with the old ones. This supposedly is a new technology and it let's you hear more high frequencies.

Has anyone else had experience with this hearing aid?

The Envoy system uses the body's own eardrum as its "microphone," using the natural acoustics of the ear canal without obstruction, interference or any external devices. The Envoy sound processor is implanted under the skin behind the ear. Two lead wires extend from the device into the middle ear. Sound waves travel into the ear canal and set the eardrum into motion, causing the bones of the middle ear to vibrate.

Recent news has shown surprising evidence that one of the hormones women naturally produce,
progesterone, seems to have a negative effect on hearing. More specifically, menopausal women taking combined hormone therapy (estrogen and progestin, a synthetic version of progesterone) were found to have significantly worse hearing than women taking estrogen alone or no hormones at all.

Along with increased risk of stroke, blood clots, heart disease, breast cancer and dementia, hearing loss should be one more thing women consider when deciding whether to take combined hormone therapy to relieve hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness. That's especially true for women who already have hearing problems, he said. Those who decide to use combined hormones are advised to get their hearing checked every six months.

I am having more and more trouble hearing on my phone. When I turn on the speaker phones it sounds muffled. Does anyone know of a good phone to buy, made especially for hearing problems?

This is some new research being done at UCLA that suggests that the brain works differently for each ear(different brain cells on each side) and not the same as previously thought.

I've been reading that the newest trend in hearing aids are ones that can be adjusted at home with software on your own computer. I emailed one company but their software is only for the brand of hearing aid that they manufacture and not for the ones they I have. I think it's a great idea. Has anyone else heard of this technology?
